"The Miner"

Part of the "Bay & Beyond" Collection

The Iconic Lightship thats sits in the background of this image has now been moved from the dock making this image a total one-off.

Sold for little more than the £1 it was bought for in 1993, the ship was moved from its mooring at Roath Basin on May 15 2015 to Alexandra Dock by tug before leaving for the city for good on to start a new life as a floating museum at Newham on the River Severn in Gloucestershire.

The vessel, originally a floating light house commissioned for UK waters in 1953, was brought to Cardiff from Cumbria and visited by thousands of people becoming an iconic feature of the rejuvenated Cardiff Bay.

The statue is known as “Pit to Port”. This sculpture features an over life size coal miner, leaning against a dram which contains a pit winding wheel, smoking factory chimney and a ship. The statue clearly demonstrate the cycle of the coal industry, which the Cardiff docklands were originally well known for.

Image of the Pierhead building in Cardiff Bay with the War Memorial if the foreground.

The memorial was shot with 2 off-camera lights to illuminate the face - A set up that took a long time to come together as it had to be the right conditions and the right sky with no people walking into the shot.

Received a "Highly Commended Award" from the Societies.

The "Beyond Dreams" collection is inspired by the 1987 movie "Mannequin" where a shop window mannequin comes to life.

The idea for the film came when director Michael Gottlieb was walking down Fifth Avenue and thought he saw a mannequin move in the window of Bergdorf Goodman.

All pieces are sold as one-off signed originals and no print runs are issued in the collection.
